Easy Birria Tacos Recipe

Birria is one of my all-time favorite Mexican dishes and these birria tacos are one of my favorite ways to serve it. These simple tacos are made by dipping a corn tortilla in birria sauce then pan frying it until crispy, with a generous serving of birria meat inside.

Add cilantro and onion then serve with more birria sauce on the side for dipping. Simple yet tasty!

Why You’ll Love These Tacos de Birria

What makes these birria tacos so special? Here are a few reasons.

  • Authentic Mexican. Tacos de birria are true Mexican cuisine, not Tex-Mex like many tacos we enjoy. These tacos are something you’ll find at restaurants and street taco stalls in Mexico.
  • Perfect way to use leftover birria. As I mentioned in my birria recipe, I like to enjoy birria as a stew for dinner then use the leftover to make these tacos. Yum!
  • Crispy tortillas. My favorite part of these tacos de birria is, hands down, the tortilla. Dunked in birria sauce (made from the broth and juices) for extra flavor then pan-fried until crispy…so good!

Recipe Ingredients

These tacos are made with just 5 ingredients. You can find the measurements in the recipe card below.

  • Birria – These tacos start with my mouthwatering beef birria recipe. Leftovers work great!
  • Vegetable oil – For frying the corn tortillas.
  • Tortillas – Classic birria tacos are made in corn tortillas.
  • Toppings – Onion & cilantro are classic toppings.
  • Lime wedges – For squeezing over the top before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy your birria tacos immediately with your favorite toppings. I usually keep it simple with diced onion and cilantro but feel free to add cheese (queso fresco, Oaxaca cheese or Monterey Jack) or other toppings (like pico de gallo and guacamole).

Serve a small dish of the birria sauce on the side for dipping as well.

Proper Storage

Birria tacos should be enjoyed immediately but you can store the birria itself in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
